Today, class was a work period for our LA Essays. We either had to be revising our own essays or reviewing someone else's. The final draft of our LA essays is due on Wednesday on turnitin. Only homework is to read our Lit Circle books at 20% and revise our essays.

• Placement Rubic Review
• We just went over the rubic that is used to grade the essays in the college placement test and reviewed the sample essays from the college placement tests. (Assignments 60 and 61)
• Placement Essay Scoring
• Mrs. Ortega handed out the 45 minute practice placement essays that people from senior year wrote and had us read them and give them a score based on the placement rubric. On a sticky note we were to write the number of the essay, the score we gave the paper and 2 bullet points as to why you gave them the score you did.

Hello South House! Hope you all had a wonderful day today, only 3 more days to go before our 4 day weekend! Anyways, it's my turn to scribe this week and I hope I can be of help especially to those of you who weren't here today. So here is what went on today in class.
The Game Plan:

• SSR
• Mini Lesson: Close Reading
• We did this mini lesson under assignment 70 under our LC Disc Prep 8. We had to choose a passage from our reading that caught our attention and that was 5-7 sentences long. After writing the passage down we had to write why you think the author included that passage, what specific techniques were used, and how effective were they.
• For our future homework assignments we are expected to do this under our LC Disc Prep notes.

We started off with SSR then went into Assignment #66 Save the Last Word for Me in which we discussed about the passage from 1988. Then we went onto our Membership Grid Discussion: What would you bake for the person you love? After that we transitioned to Literature Circle Discussions. Last but not least, we received our progress reports.

Don't  forget to add Assignment #66- Save the Last Word for Me, Assignment #67- 1st Semester English Report and Assignment #68- LC Discussion Prep 6. 

Read your books and take down some quotes for our next discussion.

Hello, South House! I hope you all had a wonderful day today. It's Tuesday, which means we only have Wednesday, Thursday and Friday until we can go back to being lazy once again! YAY! :D Anyways, let's get back to business, you poor fools.

First off, as always, we had SSR. Ortega gave us a mini lesson on Follow-up Questions in which she had us do Assignment #64: Asking Follow Up Questions in our notebooks with our partners. We were given a short story and had to come up with a good question that could eventually have follow-ups basically of the same concept. Then we moved right along to LC discussions. For homework be sure to attempt to read your books as well as add and complete Assignment #65 LC Discussion Prep 5 in your notebooks.
